OPTIONAL GAME VARIATIONS

Mastered FOUR DOWN™?

Add one or more Game Variations for a whole new level of strategy and excitement.

Available Game Variations

🔥 Hot Fives
5s become wild and may be played as any card except a Tower 4 Card.

⏭️ Skip Sixes
Playing a 6 skips the next player's turn.

⬆️ High Sevens
Playing a 7 changes the normal play for the next player. Instead of playing lower, that player must play higher. Normal play resumes after that turn.

🔄 Reverse Eights
Playing an 8 reverses the direction of play.

Using Game Variations

Before play begins, the Stone Tower Holder chooses whether to play with no Game Variations, one Game Variation, or multiple Game Variations.

Around our table, we like to let the cards decide!

HOUSE FAVORITE

After each player has placed their Four Down Cards and four Face-Up Cards, each player announces whether their leftmost Face-Up Card is a 5, 6, 7, or 8. The corresponding Game Variation is activated for the round.

The Stone Tower Holder places the activated Game Variation Token(s) on or beside the ARENA Card. If multiple Game Variations are activated, they are all in effect for that round.

Example

  • Player 1's leftmost Face-Up Card is a 5, activating Hot Fives.
  • Player 2's leftmost Face-Up Card is a 6, activating Skip Sixes.
  • The remaining players do not have a 5, 6, 7, or 8 as their leftmost Face-Up Card; therefore, no additional Game Variations are activated.

NOTE

During the round, whenever an active 5, 6, 7, or 8 is played, the player must announce its effect:

  • "Hot Five — One Ace!"  (replace "Ace" with the card    value the 5 represents)
  • "Skip!"
  • "High Seven!"
  • "Reverse!"

Just like any other card, active 5s, 6s, 7s, and 8s may be played one at a time or up to four of the same card to clear the ARENA.
